If a wolf wanders into view, we need to be able to recognise it immediately as such in order to take action. If the wolf is facing left, it\u2019s a wolf. If it\u2019s facing right? Still a wolf. For obvious reasons, the brain is programmed to determine what our eyes are seeing irrespective of the angle from which it is being viewed.<\/p>\n

The letters of the alphabet were not designed with this fact in mind, however. For children taking their first steps in deciphering written language, this often leads to confusion.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_id=”is-my-child-sleep-deprived” _builder_version=”4.9.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_text_color=”#796cb1″ custom_padding=”30px||||false|false” locked=”off”]<\/p>\n

\u4fe1\u4ef6\u53cd\u8f6c<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

When viewing young learners\u2019 work, it is not unusual to see letters like \u2018r\u2019 \u2018c\u2019 \u2018f\u2019 and \u2018s\u2019 written backwards. The brain does not recognise the direction they face as crucial to their identification. However, as these letters do not have a mirror opposite, children are unlikely to confuse them with another letter; a backward \u2018f\u2019 is still an \u2018f\u2019. <\/p>\n

Letters like \u2018b\u2019 and \u2018d\u2019 are particularly problematic because they are the same shape in reverse. As with the wolf facing left or right, our brains want to see them as the same thing. The letters \u2018p\u2019 and \u2018q\u2019 cause a similar problem, as do \u2018m\u2019 and \u2018w\u2019 (although in this case they are the same shape facing up and down). When we ask children to differentiate between these shapes based solely on their orientation, we are asking them to override a function that has existed for thousands and thousands of years. It\u2019s little wonder that most children take time to get it right![\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_id=”what-is-healthy-sleep” _builder_version=”4.9.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_text_color=”#796cb1″ custom_padding=”30px||||false|false” locked=”off”]<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u9700\u8981\u591a\u957f\u65f6\u95f4\uff1f<\/h1>\n

Some will master certain skills quickly while others take time. Even students who seem to be excelling in reading and writing can still confuse \u2018b\u2019 and \u2018d\u2019 when decoding or spelling words. When a child makes a mistake like this, it\u2019s a good idea to gently remind them verbally. For example if a child makes the \u2018d\u2019 sound when looking at the letter \u2018b\u2019 gently remind them by simply naming the letter. On most occasions, the child will then make the correct sound. They do know there is a difference between \u2018b\u2019 and \u2018d\u2019 but the part of the brain that requires \u2018rewiring\u2019 in order to make the distinction has not caught up. This is perfectly normal, and with practice the problem normally resolves itself before a child is nine years old.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_id=”how-can-I-ensure-my-childs-sleep-is-healthy” _builder_version=”4.9.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_text_color=”#796cb1″ custom_padding=”30px||||false|false” locked=”off”]<\/p>\n

One of the easiest, especially when teaching letter sounds, is to use the uppercase letters. As they are different shapes, children should have no issues making the correct sound when shown the letter.<\/p>\n

\u5f53\u7136\uff0c\u4e00\u65e6\u5b69\u5b50\u5f00\u59cb\u9605\u8bfb\u548c\u4e66\u5199\uff0c\u5c0f\u5199\u5b57\u6bcd\u7684\u7b26\u53f7\u662f\u4e0d\u53ef\u907f\u514d\u7684\uff0c\u4f46\u7236\u6bcd\u6709\u8bb8\u591a\u7b56\u7565\u53ef\u4ee5\u5e2e\u52a9\u89e3\u51b3'b'\u548c'd'\u7684\u6df7\u6dc6\u3002\u4f60\u53ef\u4ee5\u63d0\u9192\u5b69\u5b50\uff0c'b'\u5728\u5b57\u6bcd\u8868\u4e2d\u6392\u5728\u7b2c\u4e00\u4f4d\uff0c\u800c\u4e14\u4e24\u4e2a\u5b57\u6bcd'\u603b\u662f\u9762\u5bf9\u9762'\u3002\u5728\u6bcf\u4e2a\u5b57\u6bcd\u7684\u5708\u5185\u753b\u4e00\u5f20\u7b11\u8138\uff0c\u8fd9\u6837\u5b69\u5b50\u4eec\u5c31\u80fd\u6e05\u695a\u5730\u77e5\u9053\u8fd9\u4e24\u4e2a\u5b57\u6bcd\u9762\u5bf9\u9762\u7684\u6982\u5ff5\u3002<\/p>\n
